Before you ask a question, or when entering a shop, restaurant, whatever, always greet the person: Buenos días (tardes, whatever), then ask your question. Recognize that the server is usually not going to check on your table every two minutes (I prefer the Mexican approach, actually!). You’ll probably have to ask for the cuenta. Mexico City is high so it can be chilly! Not every place in Mexico is hot! Also if you go in summer it will probably rain during the late afternoon, so be ready!

Great job on this list! I second everything here (as someone with almost 6 years living in Mexico!) enjoy the city and remember to respect the culture and the prices and everything. It’s not LA, thank God! 😅

Something that will impress the locals: when you leave a restaurant and you’re walking by other tables, say “provecho” or “buen provecho” to the people about to eat or who are eating. It’s a polite custom and something I wish we would do in the US.

It’s much more Mexican to consider others. Even yesterday I experienced it: people exiting an elevator, they say “buen día” to the ones still on it, and the ones on it saying “pásale” when they’re walking by them to get off the elevator. How nice to recognize each other and be thoughtful.

I simply love this article and your work! 🙌🙌
