A few things to know about the city’s cocktail bar scene:

  • Expect to pay $200 to $3050 MXN (about $10 to $17.50 USD) per cocktail.

  • Generally, you’ll find more of a visitor/expat crowd early in the evening at Mexico City cocktail bars, with more locals and Mexicans visiting from other parts of the country later at night.

  • A lot of people in Mexico City don’t like to go out on rainy nights, so those evenings can be a good time to try to get into a cocktail bar if you don’t have a reservation.

  • A lot of cocktail bars are closed on Sundays and/or Mondays.

  • As is true in most places, going on a weeknight and earlier in the night gives you better odds of getting in.

If you’re planning dinner around your bar reservations, our Roma Norte and Condesa restaurant guides can help you choose where to eat:

Tip: A lot of Mexico City cocktail bars and bartenders host guest nights, where some of the team from one bar works at another bar, usually serving a few of their favorites.

We think this cross-pollination of ideas and ingredients is part of what makes the city’s cocktail scene so strong.

Follow these bars on Instagram to see if there’s a crossover night planned when you’re in Mexico City.
