Day of the Dead altars are everywhere. We found these intricate displays next to a public park in Roma Sur.

I love how people here take the time and care to set up these beautiful altars for loved ones—including pets—that have passed away.

Here’s a walkthrough of the ofrendas—you’ll see things like pan de muertos (bread of the dead), water, marigolds, and simple items that were favorites of the person who passed away.

Some of the displays are created with grains, seeds, and petals—there’s so much effort, detail and love for something that will be blown or swept away. But I suppose that’s exactly the point.
