📖Book update: This is the week!
Of course, Eternal Spring paid subscribers will get our book for free
Stephanie and I have been stressing over our book, Eternal Spring: Our Guide to Mexico City, for what feels like forever. But after several months of work, we're almost ready for our first, incomplete preview release. And I wanted to kick this off with a few short updates about the book. There's a lot to discuss, and I don't want you to miss anything important in a longer, single post.
First and most importantly, we want to again thank everyone who paid for Eternal Spring. We got ahead of ourselves a bit when we configured our new site on Substack back in August, and it didn't occur to us that anyone would pay for a subscription upfront. But some did, and that is both wonderful and terrifying. And we want to reward you for your kindness and support. Everyone who paid for Eternal Spring before I posted this will get Eternal Spring: Our Guide to Mexico City for free, forever.
That's important to us because our goal is to provide a new edition of this book each year, each supported by monthly interim updates. The current and first version of this book is what we think of as the 2025 edition. The first release of that edition, which will happen later this week, is just a preview and is by nature incomplete. But we are working on the book every day and will update it regularly. And anyone who owns the book will get all the updates we provide through the end of 2025. Then, we'll move on to the next edition.
On that note, anyone who pays for Eternal Spring will get the then-current version of the book--along with whatever updates we make--as part of their subscription. So if you subscribe in, say, February, you will get the 2025 edition, which will be more complete than the coming first preview, and whatever updates we provide for the rest of the year. If you're still paying when the 2026 edition arrives, you will get that as well.
If you don't pay for an Eternal Spring subscription but would like to purchase the book, you will soon be able to do so. Eternal Spring: Our Guide to Mexico City will cost just $9.99 in digital form--it will be available for download in PDF and Kindle/EPUB formats--and anyone who buys the book will also get all future updates for that edition. Eternal Spring: Our Guide to Mexico City will initially be available from Leanpub, the service I use for my other books. Leanpub lets us continually update the book, and that means readers will always have access to the latest version via their Leanpub libraries.
There's so much more to discuss, but rewarding subscribers who took a chance on us was weighing on us both the most. We don't see the book as a major source of income, a get-rich-quick scheme, or whatever. Instead, it's a statement of intent, that we're serious about helping others discover the Mexico City that we love so much. We very much want to share that with--and get feedback from--the people who support us the most. We want to make sure the book meets your needs.
More soon. Thanks!
This is brilliant news! And a wonderful way to give back to your paid subscribers 🙏🏼
That’s quite generous of y’all. I will probably make some sort of other regular contributions regardless, but thanks for doing this 👍
